[Announcement] Rule changes, new weekly threads, and more!
Hey there everyone! Today we are going to go over some new changes that are coming to our subreddit next week. Please read through them so that everything can be as smooth as possible.
Rule Changes and Reminders
First, we're banning the blogspot.com domain. As some of you who browse /new may have noticed, we've been getting hit by quite a lot of spam in the past couple of weeks, with most of it coming from the blogspot.com domain. Since we rarely, if ever, receive anything other than spam from that domain, we're going to automatically remove anything submitted from there. If you want to post something from a blogspot domain, simply message us and we'll approve it.
Second, on the subject of spam, we're banning blogspam. It's been a little unofficial for quite some time, but recently some subreddits ran into some issues and drama because of it, so we'd rather deal with this now. What are we defining as blogspam? Basically, taking an official Blizzard post, putting it on your website, and submitting it directly to /r/Diablo, with basically nothing on top. This doesn't affect linking to other sites for content. For example, if you make a guide on DiabloFans or post some patch analysis on a fansite, you're more than welcome to submit it here. This is targeted at sites that just want to get some easy clicks and ad hits by gaming the system.
Third, we're going to crack down on blatant self-promotion. There is actually a reddit-wide guideline that states that you should have around nine (9) comments/interactions to every one (1) self-promotion post that you do. It doesn't have to be exactly 9:1 comments to promotions, but don't just submit link after link to your content without being a part of the reddit community. This applies to livestreams in particular, as we've noticed quite a lot of people simply coming here and dumping their Twitch stream for views, and then leaving.
Fourth, a reminder that linking to or mentioning specific botting or third party software by name is not allowed in the subreddit. Talking about botting in general is still allowed. Linking to a botting forum, or website that otherwise promotes the use of bots is also not allowed.
Finally, we're going to be trying some things in order to deal with some unneeded downvoting in this subreddit. Starting Sunday, we'll be hiding comment vote scores for one hour during a one-week trial period. Hopefully it'll help with some rampant downvoting issues, but if we see it not working at all, we will revert back to the old system, please provide us feedback on this and don't forget to upvote high quality content and downvote low quality content/comments.
Okay, now that all that boring stuff is out of the way, let's get onto the fun stuff!
We're reworking our current weekly threads and introducing some new ones to accommodate the new expansion and our community.
Past weekly threads:
- The Official Weekly Loot Thread of Awesomeness has been renamed to Weekly Loot Wednesday and has moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.
- The Saturday Help on Items and Techniques thread has been renamed to Gear Check Saturday.
- The Thursday Help Desk is staying right where it is. We now have a Frequently Asked Questions wiki page to help with some really common questions.
New threads:
- Discussion Monday! Each week, we'll be posting a different topic, like a specific item or skill or event, for the subreddit to discuss, along with prompts to foster discussion.
- Transmog Tuesday! Who's been dying to show off their well-dressed hero? (Me!) Well, be sure to post your heroes here for everyone to see!
- Looking for Group Friday! Are you looking for someone to farm some rifts this weekend? Or maybe to do some Ubers on Saturday night? Post a time and your battletag and find a monster slaying buddy!
Final thoughts
Our theme is still in production! Treasure goblins keep teleporting in and stealing important CSS bits, only to run away and jump into HTML portals (have I made it clear I don't really understand how this works yet).
We have a wiki! A lot of it is still outdated, but there is some good content there already. If you have 50 comment karma in /r/Diablo and a 60 day old reddit account, you can automatically edit and add stuff to the wikil. If you dont meet the requirements but still want to contribute, just send us a message.
Remember to check out our IRC and Mumble channels (over in the sidebar) if you're looking to make some new farming friends or want some quick input on your hero or whatever.
Did you know that we have a reddit Blue Tracker? Whenever one of the Blizzard staff posts in one of the Blizzard subreddits, our bot automatically links them here. Pretty neat!
If you have any questions/comments/concerns/limericks about all the new changes, please don't hesitate to comment below or message us. As always, may your loot be legendary!

TLDR:
Were:
- banning blogspot.com domain and blogspam.
- cracking down on blatant self-promotion and linking to botting websites.
- testing hiding comment vote scores.
- adding and reworking new weekly threads.
- still working on the theme.
Check out our wiki and reddit Blue tracker. Message us if you have any questions.
Shorter TLDR: Were trapped in a portal of a Treasure Goblin who only collects ears of dead heroes and only you can save us by reading the announcement.
